What other stories or films can you think of, in which a woman is torn between two men or in which a married woman starts getting interested in another man?

I can think of a film in which a woman is torn between two men or in which a married woman starts getting interested in another man. The film I think of is “Titanic”.

-In 1912 Rose De Witt Bukater boards the departing ship with the upper-class passengers (her mother and her fiancé Caledon Hockley)

-Rose is frustrated with her engagement with Caledon and her controlled life

-Rose attempts to commit suicide by jumping from the ship

-However a poor artist, named Jack Dawson receive Rose

-Jack and Rose strike up a tentative friendship

-Caledon is informed of the meeting from Jack and Rose

-That’s the reason why Caledon forbids Rose to meet Jack again

-Rose’s mother commands her to give up Jack and save her engagement to Cal in order to ensure their financial welfare, too

-Jack confronts Rose alone, but she inclined to ignore their growing affection because of her engagement and responsibilities

-Rose later changes her mind and decides to offer her heart to Jack in a forbidden romance.

Similarities:

Differences:

-Olivia is torn between two men as well as Rose De Witt Bukater. Olivia is torn between the Nawab and Douglas. Rose De Witt Bukater is torn between Caledon Hockley and Jack Dawson.

-Both of them doesn’t feel comfortable in their old surroundings

-Olivia and Rose are unfaithful

Olivia and the Douglas are married. However Rose De Witt Bukater and Caledon Hockley are just engaged

The second story in which a woman is torn between two men or in which and married woman starts getting interested in another man is “Desperate Housewives”.

Desperate Housewives

-“Desperate Housewives” follows the lives of a group of woman

-They live in the Wisteria Lane (= a fictional American town)

-One of the women is Gabrielle Solis; she is married with Carlos Solis

-Gabrielle tries to prevent her husband Carlos from discovering her affair with their underage gardener

-Gabrielle learned that she was pregnant (Carlos replaced her birth control pills with sugar pills)

-She left Carlos after finding out the truth about the pills, but she decided to blackmail him into taking complete care of the baby in return for her testimony in his gay crime allegations

-She lost the baby (because of an accident)

-Then Gabrielle decides to be faithful to Carlos and begins preparations to have a child

-However she can’t become pregnant again because of her miscarriage

-The Solis’s finally decide to make their new maid to the surrogate mother of their baby

-Gabrielle finds out that Carlos is cheating on her with the surrogate mother

-Gabrielle and Carlos are said to be getting a divorce…

Similarities:

Differences:

-Olivia is torn between two men as well as Gabrielle Solis. Olivia is torn between the Nawab and Douglas. Gabrielle Solis is torn between her husband Carlos Solis and her gardener.

-Olivia and Douglas are married, as well as Gabrielle Solis and Carlos Solis.

-Olivia and Gabrielle conceive, but they don’t know who the father is- Douglas or the Nawab or rather Carlos or the gardener.

-At the end Olivia and Gabrielle lost their babies.

-Olivia and Gabrielle lost their babies.

-However Gabrielle lost her baby as a result of an accident. Olivia has an abortion.

Explain why Olivia is so “excited” about the invitation to the Nawab´s party.

April 28, 2008

Olivia is excited, because she is always alone in her big house with all the doors and windows shut to keep out the heat and dust. (p.19,l.7-9) She is even very bored by other old India hands and their interminable andecdotes about things that had happened in Kabul or Multan (p.20,l.12-14). Douglas is all the time very busy that is the reason why she also feels very lonely (p.19,l.10). Even her activities, like playing the piano or reading (p.19,l.9), does not really enjoy her, therefore Olivia is extremely excited to go out and have some fun at the Nawab´s party. Furthermore at this events she is able to wear her evening dress and satin shoes to show them to the other guests (p.19,l.17-20).
